The traditional and healthy focus of conservatism – the vigorous engagement in the public policy arena of a “contest of ideas” for the right solutions to the nation’s large and growing problems – is now increasingly being gauged by a focus more on bombastic and shallow rhetoric and the emotions surrounding those issues rather than the substantive debate about the policy solutions themselves.
The growing (fallacious) test of what some define as a “true conservative” for too many has become one’s fidelity to the person or group that has the most incendiary rhetoric and no desire to find constructive solutions. Right Way labels this “destructive conservatism.”
Right Way Initiative seeks to recalibrate this ill-advised strain of thinking and will engage and oppose those who adopt and practice it. Right Way will seek out and support those who support and practice “constructive conservatism.”
